Hot Air Balloon Rides UK

Adventure Balloons take great pride in their balloon flight service covering the UK. Our new flying areas introduced this year provide exclusive balloon flights in Sussex, Kent and Essex. You will be surprised when you take that first balloon flight just what a passion you develop for this romantic experience. Imagine the world slowly drifting underneath you as you relax and enjoy being suspended in the air.

Peacefully drifty over the UK countryside and take part in this once in a lifetime memory. Hot air balloon rides in the UK take place during the cooler hours of the day, usually at dawn or dusk. The reason for this is that winds are lighter and make the hot air balloon launch easier as well as the landing too.
The avoidance of thermals is another reason for flying at such times.

Ballooning in Surrey

Farnham, Godalming and Guildford are our launch sites based in Surrey. As a county Surrey looks quite small, especially from a balloon. That said, it is a beautiful county that has lots of wonderful sites to see from the air. The hot air ballooning in Surrey means we have to keep clear of Heathrow and Gatwick airport’s space. Wind direction is a big factor in us choosing the specific launch site. Launching from Shalford Park and Burys in Godalming which is next to the River Wey the flight is bound to be enjoyable.

Arial attractions in Surrey range from Guildford Cathedral to Loseley House and even Billy Smarts Circus in Farnham Park! Perhaps you are more of a historic person and would be interested in seeing the ruins of Waverely Abbey. Balloon Flight Safety

Even before a balloon takes off Adventure Balloons have many safety checks. So those of you who are nervous about flying need not worry. A preflight preparation always takes place. The balloon pilot will check the weather conditions to make sure all is well before the flight and will also select the best take-off point.

Visibility is a big issue for flying a balloon and the weather conditions must be right for the balloon flight to take place. Obvious obstructions when flying need to be taken into consideration and if visibility is poor a balloon flight may not take place. The launch site for the balloon needs to have sufficient area to basically lay out the balloon and inflate it without any obstruction such as poles or powerlines and trees. Wind needs to be predicted in such a manner that the balloon will take off as required. All safety aspects for the balloon flight are considered from the amount of fuel the balloon needs to any other hazards that may potentially effect the flight.

Adventure Balloons believe that balloon flight safety comes first.

Balloon Flight North Hampshire

Adventure balloons are proud to have several launch sites in North Hampshire. For safety we keep away from the major airports though such as Heathrow and Farnborough.
The North Hampshire balloon flights launch sites are at Down Grange and the War Memorial Park which is in Basingstoke. Other areas include Old Basing and the Hartley Wintney areas of the Hampshire region.

The balloon luanch sites in North Hampshire that we use are of course dependant on wind speed and direction and other factors we need to consider on the day.
The Hampshire countryside is truly stunning with many ariel attractions to see such as Tylney Hall and Wellington Country Park. Whilst on the balloon ride you may even catch a glimpse of the Duke of Wellington’s home (Stratfield Saye) So there will be plenty to see when you book one of our Hampshire Flights.

UK Hot Air Balloon Flight Clothing

One of the most frequently asked questions that we are asked at Adventure Balloons by first time flyers is, “what clothes should I wear for my trip”? We always suggest that you contact the Local Hot Air Balloon operator we have selected for you who has knowledge of prevailing conditions in your area, but the following guidelines will help.

In general, dress as if you were going for a two or three hour country walk, always wear good closed shoes, trainers are ok, but walking boots better. Never wear sandals, high heels or flip flops because the hot air balloon may land in an area which has rough terrain, thistles etc., for this reason you should always wear long trousers to protect the legs. We suggest that you wear layers of clothing; after all you can always remove some of it if it gets too warm. Dress sensibly and enjoy your hot air balloon flight.

Champagne Balloon Flights - Adventure Balloons

The tradition of champagne on a balloon flight goes back a long way and can actually be traced to the 1780’s which was the staging of the first balloon flight. On that first balloon flight the pilot took along a bottle of champagne to celebrate and enjoy on the flight, instead the champagne was given to the farmers who owned the land the hot air balloon landed on.

This gift of champagne to the landowners convinced them that the hot air balloon was not infact something to be frightened of and of course acted as compensation for disturbing grazing animals in the field.
The tradition of a champagne toast after the flight still stands today where you as a passenger will celebrate with the pilot.

Hot Air Balloons are they Safe ?

Hot air ballooning has been around for years and with our in-flight experiences you can be confident that your balloon ride will be safe. Remember that a balloon pilot needs a commercial pilot’s licence to fly and have had extensive flight instruction and of course a written test.
All of our pilot’s are qualified, so you are in safe hands.

The balloon material has been tested over and over to make sure there are no defects so this means it’s safe. The wicker baskets are also very safe as they are flexible enough to help the balloon with landing, but also very strong. The flexibility of the wicker basket means most of the landing impact is absorbed too so adventure balloon’s passengers enjoy good levels of comfort.

All of our balloon flights have a flight safety briefing too, so any worries or concerns you may have at the time about flying can be discussed.
