Adventure Balloons now offer hot air balloon rides in the beautiful county of Surrey. This provides a unique challenge for our balloon pilots as they have to keep clear of both Heathrow and Gatwick airports airspace.

Adventure Balloons has several launch sites in Surrey; Shalford Park in Guilford, the Burys in Godalming that is near to the River Wey, and Farnham Park which is next to Farnham Castle. There is also a launch site at Holt Pound which is sometimes used.

To ensure that you are given a safe and enjoyable flight, the site will be chosen depending on the wind direction and speed on the day, as well as visibility and any other operational factors. Whichever site is used, flying over Surrey, you will appreciate its beautiful countryside and tranquil setting.

During your flight there are a few attractions you may see including; Farnham Castle, Guilford Cathedral and Alice Holt Forest. You may also pass over small villages and towns like Churt and Puttenham, and ruins such as Waverley Abbey.

Adventure Balloon’s very own director, Kim Hull got to have a bit of the lime-light, as he was interviewed by Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2. With over 25 years of experience in piloting hot air balloons, Kim was invited to talk on BBC Radio 2 as part of their “High Flying Jobs” series of interviews on Chris Evans drive time show.

During the interview Chris becomes very excited about ballooning, even asking how long it takes to become a pilot and how much a hot air balloon costs. Could we be seeing a Chris Evans branded balloon over the Surrey countryside in the near future? Only time will tell.

Farnham, Godalming and Guildford are our launch sites based in Surrey. As a county Surrey looks quite small, especially from a balloon. That said, it is a beautiful county that has lots of wonderful sites to see from the air. The hot air ballooning in Surrey means we have to keep clear of Heathrow and Gatwick airport’s space. Wind direction is a big factor in us choosing the specific launch site. Launching from Shalford Park and Burys in Godalming which is next to the River Wey the flight is bound to be enjoyable.
